Morning!

Last night we released some new stuff for you guys within the platform. First, you now have the chance to invite up to 5 friends to loca.li! Let your mates be part of this community. Second we’ve fixed some bugs and did some redesigning. Third, you now can use twitter AND facebook to post your stuff! Please connect with facebook in your settings.

In a few days we’ll be releasing the new iPhone App version including check-in features and some surprises! Be prepared.

In case something doesn’t work well, please do not hesitate to contact us – this is still a closed BETA. We appreciate your feedback!

Development News

Hey mates,

All images and graphics are now iPhone4 ready. If you are a proud owner of an iPhone4 already, you can now enjoy the brilliant and crisp new look of our app on your Retina display All iPhone 3GS and iPhone4 users can now use orientation on the loca.li map. The green locator is now connected to the internal compass and turns around if you do.

Right now we are working on our check in and some other nice features, be prepared for some exciting new stuff! we’re counting the days for the next wave of beta users, hopefully you will all get an invite within the next days

News from last week

Hi everyone,

last week, as every week, we had a lot to do. On the one hand there was bugfixing business as usual – everything that is not running like clockwork gets fixed and made even more user friendly.
On the other hand there was this very nice event. Our iPhone app was finally approved by Apple and is now available for download at:

As you know we are in closed beta, so you need your personal username and password to use the app. If you don’t have an account yet, you should request one by adding your email at http://loca.li.

There is a very new feature, straight from the feedback and wishes corner. If you have a typo in your description, or want to add tags you can now edit your places by clicking directly on the text. We call it inline editing. There will be further improvement of this feature, so you have more design possibilities.

If you have questions, or want to participate in the development process, you should definitely use the green feedback button on our website. We read every post and will answer very soon.

There will be new, exciting features and a lot of usability tweaks.

Hallo Zusammen,

in den letzten zwei Wochen hatten wir viel zu tun. Zum einen steht natürlich immer das Bugfixing an – allles was nicht so ganz rund läuft wird repariert oder benutzerfreundlicher gemacht.
Zum anderen war mit einer der grössten Ereignisse für uns sicherlich, dass unsere iPhone App von iTunes genehmigt wurde und ab sofort unter

zum Download zur Verfügung steht. Ein BETA Invite ist für die Benutzung Pflicht. Solltet ihr noch keinen Account haben, könnt ihr Euch unter http://loca.li mit Eurer Emailadresse eintragen.

Ein weiteres neues schönes Feature kommt direkt aus der Feedback – und Wünschecke. Die Möglichkeit bereits angelegte Orte zu editieren ist ab sofort freigeschaltet. Klickt zum Bearbeiten einfach auf Euren angelegten Ort und klickt danach auf die Zeile, die ihr bearbeiten wollt. Es öffnet sich das Feld, sodass ihr Dinge hinzufügen oder löschen könnt – Abspeichern und fertig. Wir werden diese Funktion in den nächsten Tagen noch weiter ausbauen, damit ihr noch mehr Gestaltungsmöglichkeiten erhaltet.

Wenn ihr Fragen oder Anregungen habt, könnt ihr wie beim letzten Mal schon erwähnt unseren grünen Feedbackbutton (linke Seite des Portals) benutzen. Wir lesen jeden Eintrag, und versuchen alles schnellstmöglich zu beantworten.

What happend in week 1?

Dear friends of loca.li,

we have just finished our first BETA testing week. Yay!

Some very hardworking users are testing and commenting like crazy. Thanks to you guys, you are doing really well. Since we have started the BETA, we are permanently optimizing the code. Hearing your feedback and implementing your ideas right away is great fun!

Last week we have developed some really nice things.

App tweaks of last week
- There have been a lot of nasty bug fixes. The app should not crash anymore while adding a picture or video…
- We have added a helpguide that pops up when you start the app the first time.
- The app icon has changed to green. This makes our app visible, even when you are in direct sunlight while relaxing at the beach.
- Fast search (the small flag) has been removed. There is just one search function on the magnifier icon.

Portal tweaks of last week
- Most important first: We have added a feedback button! The getsatisfaction feedback button (shiny green on the left side) can be used for direct communication. As soon as you type something in, we will be informed. Please use it!
- We have added a friend counter in your friends tab and on every userprofile page. This makes a competition between you users much easier. Who has most friends?
- The whole friends tab has been optimized for better usability
- At your request all notification boxes are now fading out automatically. Thank you for your feedback.
- The rating functionality has been improved a lot. You can now de-favor a favored placed if you like or don’t like or whatever
- In singleplace-view all youtube videos are specially branded. There will be a lot more optimizations on this feature, so you can easily find videos throughout the whole page.

And the next steps for this week are:
- Mailing function, search and twitter connect will be improved
- Furthermore we are making huge efforts on keeping the platform very very easy to use. Please drop us a line if something is unclear or even unusable.

Now download the latest version of our app by clicking the iTunes Button on the page!
Important: Make sure to erase the old version of the app from your iphone and itunes before you drag the new version in.

Hallo Ihr Lieben,

die erste BETA-Testing Woche hätten wir erfolgreich hinter uns gelassen Hurra!

Ein paar Handvoll fleissige BETA Tester prüfen und kommentieren was das Zeug hält. Vielen Dank an dieser Stelle, das macht ihr super!

Seit dem Tag des Livegangs sind wir im Übrigen damit beschäftigt das Portal zu optimieren, weiter zu entwickeln und auf Euer Feedback zu hören und Eure Ideen z.T. sofort in die Tat umzusetzen oder sie aufzunehmen um sie zu einem späteren Zeitpunkt zu verarbeiten.

In der letzten Woche haben wir viele schöne Sache umgesetzt

App-Anpassungen der letzten Woche
Zum einen haben wir unsere App von ein paar Bugs befreit (aktueller Download liegt an alt bekannter Stelle, dem iTunes Button bereit) und einen Help-Guide hinzugefügt beim erstmaligen Aufruf der Anwendung. Fotos und Videos können ohne Schwierigkeiten hochgeladen und eingebunden werden. Vielen Dank für die zahlreichen Hinweise, die waren wirklich gold wert! Und wie ihr anhand der aktuellen App Version erkennen könnt, haben wir auch unser App-Icon ins Grüne getaucht, damit das Icon auch bei Sonnenlicht gut zu erkennen ist auf dem iPhone Bildschirm.

Die Fast-Suche (kleines Fähnchen) haben wir entfernt, es gibt jetzt nur noch eine Suchfunktion über das Lupen-Icon.

Portal-Anpassungen der letzten Woche
Das Allerwichtigste zuerst: Ein Feedback-Button is dazugekommen! Ab sofort müsst ihr nicht mehr direkt an sonja at loca.li schreiben, sondern könnt bei Feedbackfragen direkt links im Portal (quietsch-grün) unter “Feedback” Fragen, Probleme und Anregungen eintippen. Wir werden darüber benachrichtigt und antworten schnellstmöglich.
Zudem ist ein Friend-Zähler mit dazugekommen, damit ihr nun sehen könnt, wie viele Freunde ihr insgeamt schon im Portal habt.

Der Friendsbereich wurde ein wenig optimiert, wird aber auch in den nächsten zwei Wochen noch ein paar Veränderungen durchleben, die der Usability dienen.
Euren Wunsch, Bestätigungsboxen ausfaden zu lassen, damit man sie nicht mehr nur manuell schliessen muss, haben wir fix umgesetzt. Vielen Dank dafür!
Das Bewertungssystem wurde deutlich verbessert. Nun könnt ihr auch einen bereits gefavten Beitrag wieder “entfaven”.
Youtube Videos sind nun schon in Teilen des Portals als solche gekennzeichnet. Hier werden nächste Woche noch weitere Anpassungen erfolgen, damit ihr Videos sofort von Fotos unterscheiden könnt.

Und unsere Next Steps für die nächsten zwei Wochen sind:
Die Mailfunktion, Suche und Twitter Anbindung werden in den kommenden Tagen überarbeitet. Wir werden auch weiterhin versuchen alles sehr simple weiter zu entwickeln, damit das Handling noch einfacher – aber keineswegs komplzierter wird.

BETA test has started

Dear friends,

the requests for participation in our BETA test are far beyond all expectations. You are so great!
The good news is that all of you will soon get your invitation mail for we have decided to invite a nice amount of people to our platform every week. The next invitations will go out by the end of this week.

On the page there is a lot of very creative activity already. Very interesting international places have been created, features have been used or criticised, and yes! some bugs have been reported, too This is exactly what we need to form a unique experience for our users step by step. We are working hard on the project and we really appreciate your awesome contributions and your helpful feedback.

Hallo Zusammen,

die Anfragen für den BETA Test übertreffen bei Weitem unsere Vorstellung! Ihr seid grossartig, im Minutentakt trudeln hier die Anfragen rein. Unglaublich! Und ihr kommt alle ins Portal. Wir haben entschieden, dass wir schübeweise immer mal wieder Leute in das Portal lassen, in ca. 2 Wochen geht es weiter.

Im Portal selbst wird schon rege gepostet.. Es werden Bugs gefunden, coole Sachen entdeckt, Features gewürdigt oder in Frage gestellt, manchmal wird rumgequängelt..also genau das, was wir brauchen um ein zufriedenstellendes Portal zu designen.

Closed BETA starts Monday

Hallo liebe BETA Tester und zukünftige User,

wir bereiten gerade die letzten Dinge für die Closed BETA vor, ihr könnt Euch vermutlich vorstellen, an was man alles denken muss.

Da ich am Wochenende überraschend nicht im Büro sein kann, verlegen wir den Start der BETA auf Montag Abend, ich möchte nämlich unbedingt dabei sein! Also haltet euch bereit. Wir freuen uns schon riesig auf Euch! Alle, die in der ersten Phase nicht dabei sein werden, aber trotzdem BETA User sein möchten, können eine Mail an sonja@loca.li schreiben. Ihr werdet dann als nächstes eingeladen, schätzungsweise in 3-4 Wochen.
